Garden Party

As many of you know, Adam and I are really big into our vegetable garden.  We started this gardening thing in 2013 (although it seems like we've been doing this MUCH longer).  2013 was my first spring living with Adam, and we both wanted to spruce up the yard.  We have a beautiful back patio, but it was crowded with some large bushes the previous owners had planted between the patio and the fence.  We moved those to the front of the house, and started one of my favorite traditions - our vegetable garden!

We were able to plant this year's veg garden at the beginning of the month (more on that below), and now that our garden is planted, I'm so much more apt to spend time outside on our patio, but as you will see, it could use a bit of a makeover.  Enter: shopathome.com.

Shopathome.com is an online coupon and cash back site that partners with thousands of online retailers and more than 60 million members to deliver savings and rewards.  We have a lot of design goals and updates we are planning for the house, so spending a bunch of money on patio furniture and decorations isn't at the top of the priority list.  But by using shopathome.com, we can give our patio a fresh new look, and save at the same time!

Here are some of the items I am hoping make the cut for our updated patio oasis:

And for those of you unsure of where to start in the gardening process, I've documented how we got to this year's garden below!

No Garden would be complete without plants from Kern's.

No day would be complete without a moody Akron, OH sky.

My gardening side-kick.

Picking out the perfect peppers.

Plant Shopping is done.  Back home for some major weeding. What a mess.

Weeds be gone!

Laying out the layout.

Our little guys are all planted!

Now to decorate!

Living in the city, we are lucky to have the small bit of yard that we do, so I'm glad we can dedicate a bit of it to growing fresh produce.  Over the years, we've experimented with planting different veg, but we always have the best luck with tomatoes, banana peppers, jalepeno peppers and green/red peppers.  As you can see in the above photos, we bought all starter plants.  I guess you could say that is "cheating", but every year I start with seeds, and every year Eleanor thinks they are snacks left out for her while we are away, so I always have to ditch that effort.  I think this is the first year I didn't even bother (good riddance!).

Do you have a garden? What do you plant?

Happy Gardening (and Shopping)!
