Go with the Flow

Last weekend, Adam, my friend, Devon (you met her here, but I have another post about her in the works- she's pretty great) and I gallery sat at the Summit Artspace for the June artwalk.  The current show is called FUSION, and it's pretty amazing (sneak peek below).  It was a rainy Saturday evening, but people came out in full force.  It was great to experience how much people in Akron love the arts.

Sheer Dress: Thrifted, Black Crop Top: Black Poppy (c/o PacSun), Wide-Leg Gauchos: H&M,
Shoes: JCPenny

I always like to dress up when we gallery sit, but in a way that's a bit experimental since we are in an artsy space.  So I channeled my inner gallery girl (who else remembers that show?) by starting with a black base and layering on a sheer dress to cover up a bit (the temperature is pretty unpredictable at the gallery).  I lucked out that my dress was the same length as my trousers.  #winning

Speaking of this dress, I thrifted it a few years ago - it came with another sheer dress to layer underneath (shared here).  I've worn them together as a beach cover-up, but other than that, I'm not sure what other purpose two sheer dresses serve (any ideas, please leave them in the comments!) so I usually wear them separately.

And these gauchos - I hate calling them gauchos, but I guess that's what they are, but in a nicer fabric than the ones I had freshman year of college. I bought them on super sale at H&M last year, and they are my go-to pants when I need/want to dress up for work and on the weekend.  You can't really ask much more from a pair of pants. UPDATE: culottes.  "Culottes" is the word I was searching so hard for when writing this post.  WTF.

I hope you all had a great weekend and are ready for another amazing week!

Finally....(Official) Big News!

Sweater: Hand-Me-Down, Denim Shirtdress: Goodwill, Belt: Forever21, Creepers: Deena and Ozzy (c/o Urban Outfitters), Jewelry: Assorted

So it's official.  I've been engaged for almost 2 weeks now.  Why has it taken me so long to post about it?  Because I've been busy (busy turning 26), and believe it or not, dear readers and interwebs, you are not the first people I tell my big news too (though more likely than not, readers, you are friends with me in my day-to-day life, and have already heard this news and have seen my ring, so to you, this is all OLD news).  For those of you that haven't heard or seen, it's true!  Adam proposed two weeks ago tomorrow (Saturday, August 24th to be exact), and I didn't think it was possible to be even more in love with anyone than I am him.  We aren't talking about the wedding for another few weeks, so don't ask!

On being engaged: I always thought I wouldn't be that into it.  But I totally am.  Obviously, this is the feeling that everyone talks about when you find the right person, blah, blah, blah.  I really am excited about the prospect of spending the rest of my life with Adam.  I won't bore you all with too much more.

Anyway, the Friday before Adam popped the question, he took me on a date to Ohio City.  Ohio City is a little side neighborhood of Cleveland, and it's where the Transformer Station is located.  We had dinner at Townhall and were able to catch the speeches at PechaKucha Night Cleveland, one of which happened to be a speech from my Aunt and Uncle about collecting photography.  What a great night (and better weekend).  Above is what I wore.  I guess lately, I've been really into the short dress with long duster effect, and that's OK with me.  I hope to transition it into winter - easy peasy lemon squeezie.

What pieces from your summer wardrobes are you excited to transition with the weather?

Hibachi Hologram

Top: Akira Chicago, Jeans: H&M, Heels: Zara, Jewelry: Assorted

There are so many things I love about this outfit:  this top, the heels, the combo of silver and black jewelry.  I don't mean to toot my own horn, but this is probably one of my favorite outfits as of late.  Let's start with the top:  remember that trip we took to Chicago back in May?  No worries, we won that shopping party at Akira in Lincoln Park, and went to Chicago for a weekend.  We shopped till we dropped, danced like fools and ate delicious food.  Normal stuff.  Anyway, I bought this top.  I almost walked out without seeing it - not sure how that's possible, since we pretty much tried on everything in the store.  Flannel, plaid and slit up the back?  My kind of shirt.  Plus it's SO comfortable.  Add the hi-lo, frayed hem, and you got yourself a winner.  Unfortunately, it's been a million degrees, so I haven't had a chance to wear it, but we were going to hibachi for dinner, so I knew I could get away with it.  Let's move on to the shoes:  I have a confession to make.  I NEVER buy things online.  I don't trust the sizing, and I'd much rather try it on in person.  BUT when I realized Zara has an online shop AND was having a huge summer sale, I couldn't pass up these holographic heels.  I bought a holographic wallet at the UO Surplus store on the same trip as the plaid top and have been searching for holographic shoes for a while.  Deandri has this pair and this pair and TBA has this pair, but this style has been on my radar for a while, so I figured it was a slam dunk.  Well, until I break them in, they really aren't the most comfortable pair of shoes I own, but they are so pretty, how could I NOT wear them?  And then the jewelry combo:  everyday genius.  What are some of the favorite pieces in your closet?
